I visited Glasgow on 8th September and had a chance to go for this GAB event. The event was organised by Jamhot, for the Creative Folk in Sloans, one of the oldest bar in the city. The two speakers were an absolute delight to hear.

The list of their achievements is endless but these are the ones I’d like to mention.

Gordon Reid AKA Middle Boop is a freelancer, currently Head of Print Design at Sapient. Previously worked on VISA Olympics account and has been a judge at D&AD.

Radim Malinic is a creative director and designer working under the name Brand Nu. Published his own book now a #1 Amazon Graphic design best seller and has had a solo show in The Nancy Victor Gallery.

Here are a few things I took from both of their talks.

  1. The struggle is real and so is the resulting success.

  2. Your first few jobs might not be where you want to end up.

  3. How you perceive yourself is how others will perceive you.

  4. There will be a lot of smoke and mirrors and make or break moments.

  5. Give your client more than they bargained for.

  6. Learn by doing and/ or fucking it up.

One thing that really spoke to me was when Radim flashed a photo of Bolt and said,

"We don’t have to wait four years to perform like

Hussain Bolt. We can get up everyday and give it our best."

To end, I’d recommend all to get their hands on Radim’s great ‘Book of Ideas’. Here's a link.
